Can Semacode read Data Matrix codes?
Yes. Alongside QR codes, Semacode now reads Data Matrix — the 2D code used on automotive parts, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and electronics. Upload a photo and it cleans up the image and decodes it right in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
What Data Matrix damage can be recovered?
Blur, low contrast, glare, fading and light scratches are usually recoverable, because Data Matrix carries built-in error correction. What can't be recovered is physical destruction of the solid L-shaped border or the dotted clock track — those aren't error-corrected, so if they're gone no tool can read the code. We tell you honestly.
Do you support GS1 Data Matrix and direct part marking (DPM)?
Yes. It reads standard and GS1 Data Matrix, including light-on-dark direct part marking (laser or dot-peen on metal). For badly damaged industrial codes you can send them in and we follow up by email.
