What is a DPM code and can Semacode read it?
DPM stands for direct part marking: a Data Matrix code laser-etched, dot-peened or chemically etched directly onto a metal or plastic part instead of printed on a label. Semacode reads DPM codes from a photo, including low-contrast marks on shiny or curved metal, right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Which DPM damage can be recovered?
Low contrast, glare and reflections on metal, shallow dot-peen, partial laser fade, surface curvature and light scratches are usually recoverable, because Data Matrix carries built-in error correction and our engine reconstructs the image. What cannot be recovered is physical destruction of the solid L-shaped finder border or the dotted clock track — those are not error-corrected, so if they are gone no tool can read the code. We tell you honestly.
Do you handle automotive, aerospace and medical UDI marking?
Yes. It reads standard, GS1 and UDI Data Matrix used for traceability on parts and devices. We have recovered a scratched Data Matrix from a damaged automotive part that normal scanners rejected. For badly damaged industrial codes you can send them in and we follow up by email — or ask about our recovery API for business.
